Daniel Kinne – born in Frankfurt, Germany 1974.
Lynda Kinne (née Cohen) – born in Bronxville, New York 1971.
As a child, Daniel spent several years and many more summers with his family in the United States. Upon graduating from high school he decided to move to New York to pursue a degree in fashion at Parsons School of Design. His interest in design extended not only into the future but also into the past, as many of his designs employed the use of historic pattern drafting and sewing techniques. While studying at Parsons Daniel met Lynda Cohen, a classmate with a similar interest in the cut and construction of historical clothing. Daniel suggested they collaborate on an Elizabethan-style gown, a project which marked the beginning of their continued work together. In order to further expand their knowledge, both Daniel and Lynda traveled to London to study historical corsetry at the London Centre for Fashion Studies and the London College of Fashion. After both Daniel and Lynda graduated from Parsons School of Design, Daniel returned to London to apprentice with a Carnaby Street tailor, and in doing so completed the foundation of skills on which the design label was later founded. In addition to working together, Lynda and Daniel were married in 2002.
Given their unique combination of skills, Lynda and Daniel Kinne give à la disposition its signature style. Corsetry, highly detailed construction and a vibrant color palette work together to create the dramatic silhouettes which have become the hallmark of the collection. After working for several years in their own atelier providing clients with impeccable recreations of historic costumes, they launched a small capsule collection of corsets for day and evening. Over the next few seasons, the collection began to grow into their first full Ready-to-Wear collection, which premiered at Fashion Week in New York for Fall and Winter 2005. This and further à la disposition runway collections have garnered favorable reviews from major fashion publications including WWD and postings on Elle.com and nymag.com. Garments from the collection are often seen in editorial spreads in fashion publications including Sportswear International, Entertainment Weekly, WWD, City Magazine, Teen Vogue, Ocean Drive, Sleek and Zink. The label is currently experiencing a strong response from the European market with confirmed publication in Amazing Magazines, and Deutsch.
During his tenure at Parsons, Daniel was awarded first prize for his menswear designs by Fashion Group International for their "Mind's Eye View" design competition. The Kinnes have furthermore been named as "ones to watch" by Elle magazine and were included in Clear Magazine's list of the top 10 new designers in New York. à la disposition was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the first ever Mango Fashion Awards design competition.
